DJ Hero 2 Coming Soon

Tags: ,

Following the release of DJ Hero last year, Activision will be releasing the second volume of the interactive game this fall.  It apparently got tested over the weekend by someone at Kotaku who wrote up this report on the new game.  It sounds like there are some actual improvements which allow for more creativity by it’s players…

“The first big difference I noticed was freestyle scratching. Instead of directional arrows telling you how exactly to scratch the turntable, some scratch indicators are blank, letting you cut loose with your own patterns. McSherry said this was to give players a feel for what it’s really like touching your fingers to the vinyl. It’s a nice effect.

The biggest change in DJ Hero 2 is the ability to screw with your opponent.

Take the rewind. When a player gains enough power, they can spin the platter backwards, going over the track again, accumulating more points. In DJ Hero this was left out of multiplayer, as it leaves your opponents standing there looking stupid.

In DJ Hero 2, they leave the feature in, as it leaves your opponent standing there looking stupid.

It’s a prime example of the new design direction FreeStyle has taken with DJ Hero 2 in order to make it a more competitive game.”

So what do you think?  Will you be picking the game up?

Eminem Remix Used For Call Of Duty Promo

Tags: , , , , ,

Anyone who watched this past weekend’s UFC event witnessed fighter Chuck Lidell make his entrance using the Eminem song “Won’t Back Down.” The track features Pink and appears on Em’s upcoming Recovery album.  Well apparently the song strikes a chord with violent entertainment.  There is a remix version of the song being used in a commercial for the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops, which is scheduled to be release this November.  Take a look at it above.  And then ask yourself… since the last Call Of Duty game broke sales records, how much do you think they paid Mr. Mathers for the use of this track?  Hmmmm…

Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitar Hero?

Tags: , ,

Rumors are swirling that Red Hot Chili Peppers may be the next band to get their own Guitar Hero game.  The cause for conversation is likely due to the fact that the game’s manufacturer, Activision, has sent out a survey asking if consumers would buy such a product.  The band did have a good number of hits and are recognizable enough to market.  So we can see why this could make sense, even though we DON’T think it would do as well as the Metallica, Aerosmith, or even Van Halen editions.  But let’s face it, any band who are confident enough to come on stage wearing just a sock, deserves their own game.  No?

So not to beat a dead horse here, but what do you think?  Would YOU buy a Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitar Hero?

For those of you who have always wanted to know what it feels like to be Green Day, you’ll soon have your shot… sort of.

Harmonix/MTVGames have announced via the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards that they will be releasing Green Day: Rock Band at some point next year.  Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong had this to say about it…

We’ve worked with the Rock Band team in the past year to enable our fans to play tracks from 21st Century Breakdown, and we’re excited to now be working on a game spanning our entire career. We want people to fire this up, choose their favorite Green Day tracks, and play along with us as Rock Band avatars so they can feel what it’s like to perform on stage as Green Day.”

The Grammy Award winning band has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide.

Fans can also be excited to know that as of today (12/15), Green Day is making 3 more songs from their 21 Century Breakdown album available for download via the Rock Band Music Store.  The songs include “Christian’s Inferno,” “Last of the American Girls,” and “Viva La Gloria!”

No Doubt Counter-sued

Tags: , , , , ,

Gwen Stefani and her band No Doubt recently sued Activision, the video game company behind the popular Band Hero game.  The SoCal rockers claim that the company breached their agreement by allowing the animated characters of the band to perform songs by other artists.

Well now, Activision is counter-suing them stating that its the musicians who are in breach of contract, claiming that the rockers failed to promote the game even though they benefited from being included.  The gaming company also says they should have been aware of how their characters were to be used.

Activision now seeks costs and damages.
