T.I. & Wife Arrested On Drug Charges

Tags: , , ,

Uh-oh.  Although T.I. has only been out of prison for a matter of months, it looks like he may end up going back in.  Early this morning, the rapper and his new wife, Tameka Cottle were pulled over in West Hollywood when cops smelled marijuana coming from their vehicle.  The officers on the scene not only found the marijuana but also arrested the couple on 4 counts of possession of a controlled substance.  Bail was set at $10,000 each which has been paid at this point.  Can’t wait to hear how he handles the press with this one.

UPDATE: Now sources are saying they found ecstasy.  This could get ugly.

Mos Def Gets Sued

Tags: , , ,

Yesterday we told you how Akon was being sued for not showing up to a concert, even though he took the money.  Well today we have the same story, except this time its about Mos Def.  Apparently the rapper was scheduled to perform at the Kool Haus in Toronto on February 24th, but pulled out the day before the show.  He had already cashed the $12,500 deposit given to him by the promoters, REMG Entertainment.  The company also claims they are also out an additional $45,000 in “lost customers, sales and goodwill.”  They are now suing for at least $57,500.

When will artists recognize that you can’t take the money and run?  If you don’t play the show, give the money back!  No one in this day and age is gonna forget that they paid you an amount like that.  Save yourself the bad press.

Akon Being Sued

Tags: , , , , , , ,

Last October, Akon was scheduled to perform a concert in Belgium but apparently backed out just 8 days before the event.  The promoter lost a quarter of a million dollars and is now suing the artist.  2 other artists on Akon’s label, Kardinall Offishall and Colby O’Donnis were also supposed to perform.  Lofranco Belguim who is the promoter suing, said he paid Akon $125,000 before being told there was a “scheduling conflict.”  He now not only wants to be paid back double, he also wants multi-millions in punitive damages.

While its no longer surprising to hear stories like these as they pop up all of the time, it IS however surprising to find someone who’s legal last name is the same as his country.  Just sayin’.

Timbaland Suicide Attempt???

Tags: , , , ,

According to this report, a manhunt was issued by the L.A. Country Sheriff’s Department for Timbaland yesterday when a “possible suicide attempt” APB was sent out just before 5pm.  Apparently his Malibu home was robbed the day before and a watch valued at $2 million was taken.  Timbaland told his brother in law over the phone that he suspected the culprit was someone he trusted.  Having sounded distraught, his family tried to locate him later and were unsuccessful.  They began to panic and called the police.  A helicopter then found Tim’s Escalade, cops pulled him over, and eventually drove him back to his home where they spoke to the producer and his family.  After an examination by paramedics, the determination was made that he was not a danger to himself.

The police however are looking into the robbery and are said to have possible suspects.

It sounds to us like this could have gotten a bit blown out of proportion, but I guess we’ll wait and see what Tim has to say about the ordeal himself.

UPDATE: Timbaland called into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show to clear the air.  Have a listen to it here.

Erykah Badu Sentenced For Stripping

Tags: , , , ,

Back in March, we showed you the Erykah Badu video for the song “Window Seat” where she appears at the famous site of the Kennedy assassination in Dallas and strips off all of her clothes in a one-take shoot.  Well apparently the Dallas police ended up arresting her for the incident and she has now been sentenced.  She received 6 months of probation and a fine of $500.

For the amount of press she got over it back then (and obviously now), it seems like the move was likely worth it to her.  Badu’s album which plays host for the song, New Amerykah Part 2 (Return of the Ankh) sold 110,000 copies in its opening week.

Lil Wayne Writes To His Fans

Tags: , , , ,

Via the website Lil Wayne set up prior to going to prison, WeezyThanxYou.com, the rapper updated his fans by sending out the letter below.  He scheduled to be released in November.

“What’s poppin?!

Me, I’m good, figured I’d update my glorious fans again. Better sooner than later right? I’ll try to do this more frequently.

Well ain’t nothing going on in here but the time, which seems like it’s taking forever. I’m trying to make the most out of every second tho, mentally. There’s some pretty cool people in here. Even though this isn’t a cool place to be. I’ve learned plenty already and the best lesson is to not come back. Last night, I kicked ass in UNO! Anyway, that’s neither here nor there. Just thought I’d let y’all know. Gotta stay hydrated. Though it’s hot, I still work out. Now don’t be expecting me to look like Hercules when I get out, but I should be a little bulky. I guess. Anyways, please remember to always check for your name in the “thank yous”. I’m always reading letters and responding. Off the subject but her Chris, I think you should team up with Kobe! Go Lakers! Hey Lindsey, glad it’s over doll. I should have written her huh? Young Money, you’re the best I ever had. Look out for Nino 3, and I Am Not A Human Being. Coming soon. Mother, I love you. Nae, you’re my angel. Lil Tunechi Jr., you’re the man. Lil Kam, you’re the best heartbreaker. Lil Neal, you’re the littler meatball.

I love you all!”

DMX Pulled Over After Leaving Prison

Tags: , , ,

The guy just can’t catch a break.  DMX had just left prison when he picked up a rental car and was pulled over moments later for speeding.  The incident happened on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Obviously this guy has walked under a ton of ladders, past a bunch of black cats and has a target on his back which reads “Trouble.”  There is no one in the music business capable of attracting as much legal attention as this guy.

Katy Perry To Be Sued?

Tags: , , , , , ,

Katy Pery‘s “California Gurls” might be the biggest hit of the summer (and arguably of the year) but it looks like someone might soon be raining on her parade.  As you likely already know, Snoop Dogg is featured on the track.  One of the lines he says is “I wish they all could be California Girls.”  The problem is, that line was taken from the classic Beach Boys song, ”California Girls.”  Well now, the company that owns the original song, Rondor Music, might wind up suing Katy over the ordeal.  Brian Wilson and Mike Love are the original writers and they apparently like Katy’s song.  However they are leaving it up to Rondor as to how they want to handle the situation, according to this article.

We’re pretty sure Katy had no clue she even needed to get permission to use the line, however someone in her camp or label should have.  Even if Rondor does sue, we’re pretty sure this will get cleaned up quickly.  The sales from this song are paying the staff over at Capitol right about now.

Prince Sued For $50,000

Tags: , , ,

An attorney by the name of Ed McPherson is suing Prince for the tune of $50,000.  The reason?  He claims the singer has failed to pay him for his legal services.  McPherson claims to have made several attempts to resolve the matter, but has yet to see his dough.

Interestingly enough, one of the cases Prince hired the attorney for involved another agency who claimed that Prince refused to pay them for their services.

Hmmmm… seems like there’s a pattern here.  Yeah, we know you don’t wanna hear it, but it’s time to break out your purple wallet, bro.

Dr. Dre Being Sued For $1.2 Million

Tags: , , , ,

We’ve actually lost count how many years it’s been that Dr. Dre was supposedly releasing his Detox album.  Well you can only imagine how much money has been spent on it so far, after all of this time.  And it looks like, it may cost another $1.2 million.  Dre is currently being sued that amount by Paramount Recording Studios who claims he has not paid for his studio time between April of last year and June of this year.  He apparently agreed to pay by July 13th which has now come and gone.

Aside from wondering why he hasn’t paid, you also have to wonder… why does a guy like Dre, who’s made a killing in the business, not have his own studio?
