New B.o.B. Video Featuring Rivers Cuomo

Tags: , , , , , ,

B.o.B. released his newest video today, which is for the track “Magic” that’s currently be worked at radio.  The tune features Weezer frontman, Rivers Cuomo who as you are about to learn, is not the best dancer in the world… or even, the best hand waiver.  Dude looks a little uncomfortable in this video, a feeling we bet a lot of B.o.B.’s earlier fans are sharing right about now.  After establishing quite a bit of cred in the hip hop world, we’re not sure Bobby Ray is gonna get any love from the hood with this sugary single.

B.o.B. & Hayley Williams Never Met

Tags: , , , , ,

Back in the day, when artists would collaborate, they would figure out a time to get in the studio and work face to face.  However in today’s modern world, that’s not always the case.  Rapper B.o.B. and Paramore‘s Hayley Williams may have a chart topping hit together in “Airplanes,” but apparently, the 2 artists have never met.  They not only recorded their parts of the song separately, they also filmed their parts of the video separately.

B.o.B said the following to Contact Music

“You know I’ve always wanted to work with Hayley. I’ve still never met her yet, which is ironic and funny at the same time because this is, like, one of the most popular songs, but we’ve still never met.

New Bruno Mars Video

Tags: , , , , ,

You already know Bruno Mars for singing the hooks on B.o.B. and Travie McCoy‘s huge hits, “Nothin’ On You” and “Billionaire.”  But this kid is destined to be a star himself, as we’ve been telling you.  Here’s the first video he’s releasing for the song “The Other Side” which features B.o.B. and Cee-Lo Green.  Unfortunately, those 2 are not in the video.  But check it out anyway.

We still feel that “Talking To The Moon” is the strongest song on Bruno’s EP, It’s Better If You Don’t Understand.  Either way, you can pick it up now on It's.

The Making Of A Hit

Tags: , ,

A book recently came out called FutureHit.DNA which was written by an executive at CMT (and previously Yahoo! Music), Jay Frank.  In it, he discusses what makes up a hit song and all of the similarities that exist on the charts.  Today, there was a piece on his blog which listed a few very interesting statistics.  For one, ballads are not selling right now.  In fact, in the top 50 selling songs of 2010 thus far, only 1 was actually a ballad (Miley Cyrus‘ “When I Look At You” which came in at #50).  On top of that, hit makers are apparently releasing singles much quickler than they used to.  B.o.B. for example had 2 chart topping hits, both of which came out in the last 5 months.  Also interesting is the fact that only 10% of the songs had a traditional fade at the end, while the others had cold endings or a sustained chord.
